after an ep visit from germany based artist basicnoise, it was only a matter of time before he presented greyscale with a full length. and what a strong album it is too! pattern explorations is mixture of heavy dub grooves that verge on deep techno. chords and grooves coexisting in full dub harmony. pattern explorations part 1 pulsates thru the lower frequencies making this an optimum dancefloor workhorse without losing the deepness to get transfixed by. creatives basslines and structures are explored to their fullest. patterns are experimented with but never overstep the boundaries of making a proper dub groove like in part 2. part 3 clocks in at over 13 minutes making it the second longest foray into deepness. there is a feeling of hope and eternal beauty as the atmosphere blissfully sets in among the surroundings. the patterns aren t limited to rhythm section as this one is a testament too. chords share a stratosphere with melody elements in complete grandeur. part 5 is a bit of a banger as the relentless beat pulls the listener forward in unison. part vi is particularly exciting adding remnants of an acid line and many other unique spacey bleeps and zaps. uncharted explorations for the genre of dub techno on this one! part 7 is just down right sick. over 14 minutes of an unforgiving and highly addictive dub tech groove makes this a sure-fire dancefloor destroyer. the reprise of part 2 brings the mood down quickly for an otherworldly lullaby. drifting off after that uptempo ride makes for a smooth landing as the album winds down. basicnoise came with it for greyscale s 23rd full length album! pattern explorations in full effect!

we are back in the hauptstadt (berlin capital) with the fifth installment of the * stil vor talent berlin* compilation series, which brings forth a group of old and new faces, who exclusively contributed unreleased tracks, gathered under the umbrella of one of berlins most iconic spots. frankfurter tor is the gateway to one of our favourite districts: good old friedrichshain. loud, left and a little dirty, it houses some of the cityÕs best clubs, markets and musicians, oliver koletzki included. its two towers stand as metaphorical guards to an area that has plenty to offer and asks for little in return, instantly making it feel like home. as always, music is the common denominator and oliver koletzki delivers the perfect soundtrack with this new release, while chrisse kunst renders the visuals.

the shadows is the new album from leeds-based six-piece tomorrow we sail. building on their debut release for those who caught the sun in flight (gizeh, 2014) over the course of three years, this new work combines perfectly the soaring atmospherics, gorgeously intertwined vocal harmonies and dramatic shifts in tone and dynamics that have come to characterise tomorrow we sailÕs sound. yet, there is a new sense of urgency here. very much an album of its time, the shadows draws upon the same sense of connection to both past and present that defined its precursor but features storytelling thatÕs even more defiant and deeply personal.

a remastered version of shenzhou on triple vinyl and double cd with the bonus album-the samphire tower. paul cooper, pitchfork: shenzhou, aside from being the name of the chinese manned-spaceflight vehicles, means magic vessel, and i cant imagine a more apt description for geir jenssen s latest excursion into ambient deep listening. after following an aphexian trajectory with his releases on apollo, the ambient sublabel of belgiums r&s records, jenssen veered from the padded sci-fi-inspired techno of microgravity and patashnik with 1997s substrata, a genre-defining exploration of drifting soundscapes. substrata remains for many the album that perfectly expresses the serenity and intensity of arctic wildernesses, a landscape jenssen knows intimately, having spent much of his life in the norwegian arctic circle. in 2000, jenssen nearly eclipsed the success of substrata with cirque, a frequently frosty submerging of excerpted conversations and found environmental sounds that rivals wolfgang voigts gas project in its rumbling, gauzy beauty. jenssen again relies on found sound as source material for shenzhou, but this time, the found sound is old vinyl recordings of the orchestral works of french impressionist composer and ambient precursor, claude debussy. jenssen lifts fragments of these scratched records in a similar manner as he did for cirques black lamb grey falcon and iberia eterea
